ABOUT THE ARTIST

Pedro Fernández holds positions as a percussionist with the Indianapolis and Chautauqua Symphony Orchestras. He has held similar titles with the Cincinnati Symphony and the Houston Ballet Orchestra. Additionally, Pedro has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Detroit, Houston, Columbus, Hawaii, and Palm Beach Symphonies, Louisville Orchestra, and Florida Grand Opera among others; and internationally with the National Symphonies of Costa Rica and his native Panama.

As a chamber musician Pedro has performed at the Resident Series of the Chautauqua Institution and the Perspective Series of the Texas Music Festival, as well as in collaborations with the Frost Chamber Players at Festival Miami, New World Symphony Percussion Consort, Svet Stoyanov, and PULSUS percussion trio. As a soloist, he has played recitals for National
Broadcast in Panama, Society of Electro-Acoustic Music, and concerti with the National Orchestra of Panama, as well as engaging in collaborations with several different composers. Pedro appears in recordings with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Miami-based choir
Seraphic Fire, the Indianapolis-based group Direct Contact Latin Jazz and the Henri Mancini Institute at the University of Miami.

Pedro is on faculty at the Lone Star College - Montgomery, and the Chautauqua Music Festival School. Additionally he has appeared as a clinician for the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, the Alfredo de Saint-Malo Festival in Panama City, Panama, and the Conservatorio
del Estado de México in Toluca. Pedro holds degrees from Sam Houston State University and the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, his main teachers include Matthew Strauss, Svet Stoyanov and Dr. John Lane.
